This morning I saw Venus Williams walk-rather DRAG- herself off the tennis court at the US Open. I was never a big fan of hers, but this awakened me to the fact that if she’d been recently diagnosed, she’s been likely dealing with the symptoms of Sjogren’s Syndrome for some time. Can you imagine a training schedule such as hers with the fatigue, with the aches, with the pains and dry mouth-to name a possible few?
Thee immune system can take a beating before it collapses, but when it does… Over the years Venus Williams gave hers QUITE a beating and this time, it overcame her. HORRIBLE as it is that one more person has been stricken with an autoimmune disease, the visibility of autoimmunity has been raised and that has to be a good thing, right? It is a good thing, but for the WRONG reason.
On the different search engines, there were dozens of tales of similar things. Does this mean that in some way, Venus Williams will raise the visibility of all autoimmune disorders so that we’ll be one step closer to a cure?
